Process Description
The York Water Company is privately owned and operates a 30 MGD filter plant serving greater York County. The filter plant was originally built in 1931 and has gone through a number of capacity and process upgrades. Regulatory requirements resulted in the need for computerized monitoring and reporting, which was accomplished by upgrading the SCADA system.
Project Description
The existing PLC which provided supervisory control of the filter plant had become obsolete and spare parts were difficult to obtain and expensive. After reviewing several proposals, York Water selected FEC Technologies to replace and upgrade the system. The new system added I/O and additional rate of flow control. A new Human Machine Interface (HMI) computer system was also added for overall plant monitoring, alarming, trending and reporting. The system was designed with future expansion capability. FEC Technologies provided the following services:
- System Design submittals
- PC HMI Programming
- PLC Programming
- Panel Construction
- System Start-up and Training
- Ongoing System Support
System Components
- Modicon Quantum PLC panel
- National Instruments "Lookout" HMI
